new projects

Well, it’s about time for another update about what’s on my plate, as I’ve returned from a great week of vacation and have recently taken on a few new web projects.

My new top priority is a project I took on just this week. I’m going to be re-doing the website for Dan Sebring, a candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s 4th District. Dan is a conservative candidate running against incumbent Gwen Moore. I do not reside in his district, but I support his candidacy and wanted to provide my assistance. Here is a link to Dan’s website; my changes to it will be taking shape over the next few weeks. This project is on the fast track with the election approaching.

I am also starting work on a website for Jan DeMario, a family friend who owns a salon in the Milwaukee area. Jan wants a website that will not only be informative about her business, but also interactive. Her main request is for a system that will allow customers to make appointments online. Those appointments will automatically be synchronized to her phone, and customers will be able to sign up for automated email or SMS alerts, making everyone’s lives a little easier. I hope to have this project finished by the middle of next month.

Meanwhile, my work on revamping the Sigma Theta Epsilon, Beta Epsilon chapter website continues. I am still hopeful that I can “soft launch” the site in time for the start of the school year. The soft launch would encompass the public-facing portions of the site, so that prospective members would be informed and engaged during the fall rush process. Meanwhile, I will be continuing work on a new members’  area, which would launch later in the fall semester. The current members’ area would remain for the time being. This project remains a very high priority for me, though Dan Sebring’s site will necessarily take precedence over the next few weeks.

My work with Calvary Memorial United Church of Christ is also continuing. An upgrade to the church’s video equipment is coming soon, which means that sermon videos will soon be posted online. I have also continued to help with the music ministry, and I led musical worship at the church picnic last Sunday along with my friends Matt Russ and Kenny Gould.

I’m also still hunting for full-time employment. And of course, I would still like to revamp my own website, though that project has obviously taken a backseat at the moment. Just for fun, I am also starting on a small project using the Twitter API.

As always, you can head to my Projects page at any time to see what I’ve previously worked on and what’s in the works.

  1. What techs are you using for the salon website? Seems pretty cool.

  2. It’s called Appointy. http://www.appointy.com

It has a WordPress plugin so I can drop it right in. To get the appointments right onto her iPhone, I’m going to first sync them with a Google Calendar and then use Google Sync to get them to the phone.

  3. [...] As I mentioned earlier this month, I was contacted by Dan Sebring, as he was looking for website help for his campaign. Dan is a conservative candidate running against incumbent Gwen Moore in Wisconsin’s 4th Congressional District. I don’t live in that district, but I support Dan’s candidacy and was happy to help.
